The Westbrook Probate Court has jurisdiction over the probate of wills and administration of estates. It also has authority to oversee trusts, determine title to real and personal property, appoint guardians for minors and mentally retarded persons, appoint conservators, commit a person suffering from severe mental illness to an appropriate hospital, remove guardians, terminate parental rights, permit adoptions, grant custody, and grant name changes. The Westbrook Probate court accepts passport applications and can provide information and telephone numbers regarding visa and other foreign entry requirements.
